Within the framework of the “The Art of Living” Festival, hosted at The St. Regis Rome and dedicated this year to play as an expression of creativity and learning, Civitan renews its commitment to fostering conscious citizenship through contemporary languages.
Participation in the conference “Art in Play”, organized by Cecilia Pecorelli for Galleria Continua and further enriched by the involvement of our Honorary Member Saverio Teruzzi for the Fondazione Pistoletto – Cittadellarte, represented a meaningful moment of dialogue between art, technology and education. Within this context, the project “EDD’s Mission” was presented, conceived by journalist Daniela Brancati and developed with creative and technological support from Blaster Foundry.
“EDD’s Mission” is an educational video game born from the encounter between art and digital media, with the aim of promoting learning through play (learning by playing), addressing new generations in their natural language: visual and interactive communication. In this way, the game becomes a tool for knowledge, reflection and awareness, capable of overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers.
In line with Civitan’s mission — to build good citizenship — and with the vision of Michelangelo Pistoletto, who identifies art as a driving force for responsible social transformation, the project takes shape as a participatory laboratory for civic education. Through playful dynamics, young players are encouraged to develop critical thinking, respect for the community, and awareness of places and institutions, experiencing the value of rules as instruments of coexistence.
Particular attention has been devoted to the overall well-being of the user. The game’s content has been designed according to recognized scientific and pedagogical criteria, with the aim of promoting health, digital safety and conscious use of technology. In this perspective, the collaboration with A.S.S.I.R.E.M. – Italian Scientific Association for Research and Education in Sleep Medicine and with Civitan Honorary Member Professor Pierluigi Innocenti has contributed to the definition of guidelines attentive to the neurological, visual and circadian effects of screen exposure.
Far from any demonization of video games, “EDD’s Mission” highlights their educational potential: when guided and properly contextualized, digital play can motivate, stimulate cooperation and foster deep learning. At the same time, the project responsibly addresses the potential risks associated with improper use, transforming them into opportunities for growth and accountability.
Designed for the 10–14 age group, the video game is free of charge and accessible via QR code. It will be used in educational workshops at Cittadellarte in Biella and in selected schools in Rome, as part of structured learning pathways supported by teachers and educators, with dedicated materials aimed at encouraging observation and reflection.
Placed within the broader framework of civic education, the project is conceived as a replicable model, intended to expand into other thematic areas such as environmental education and the prevention of bullying and cyberbullying. An integrated approach that opens up new forms of sharing, positive competition and active participation.
“EDD’s Mission” thus represents a concrete example of educational innovation, where art, play and civic responsibility intertwine to guide new generations toward a more conscious, inclusive and sustainable citizenship.
