How do you inspire others to join in the mission of Civitan?

  • Share my story and invite them to a service project
  • Take any opportunity with any person with disabilities and their family to ask them if they have heard of Civitan
  • I share the story of my daughter and the miracle she is. I tell how I was invited to speak at a Civitan meeting about her, and joined that night. The feelings you get from a smile or a hug from those you help is worth more than gold.
  • Encourage others to think beyond themselves and join you in serving others
  • Through our social media and implementing a Zoom interest meeting for those who want to learn more about Civitan
  • Send personal invitations to meetings and pay for guests’ meals
  • Tell people how mcuh fun you have serving and what you do to serve. Invite them to join!

How do you develop partnerships and relationships with your community?

How do you develop income sources through fundraising?

  • We sell pecans to raise funds. We put the pecans in banks, salons, government offices and other places in the community, as well as members selling them to friends and family. This funds our service projects throughout the year.
  • We have a flag project. We place US flags every holiday in people’s yards in exchange for a fee – Hutchinson CC
  • We join the Griffin Area Resource Center for their holiday parties, developing and maintaining relationships. We also give scholarships to their students. We support this center by donating funds for equipment and innovative learning centers. – Sun City CC
  • As members of our local chamber, we have the opportunity to network with a host of businesses that gives us opportunity to inform them of what Civitan is doing. – Greenville CC.
  • Partnering with other civic organizations in the community to host an all-sports weekend. We sold sponsorships and fees for registrations to have a succesful fundraiser split among the clubs.
  • Attend as many community events as we can
  • Our club provides leadership and oversight for the area Special Olympics. This role provides connection and collaboration opportunities with service providers. The partnerships have generated outreach.
  • We raised over $2,000 last year for United Rehabilitation Services through our “Cheese & Quackers” Rubber Duck Regatta. – Dayton CC

How do you engage members through fellowship and connection to boost retention?

  • Send text messages and call members to check on them and their families. Send update emails. Schedule lunch together!
  • I remind our members that they are PEEPS. People Exhibiting Extraordinary Performance & Service, and give them a box of Peeps!
  • Our pancake day fundraiser is all hands on deck and a lot of hard work for a full day. The shared effort goes a long way toward strengthening the bonds between us and fosters alot of fellowship!
  • We set aside time to fellowship after our meeting. We utilize our newsletter and text messages. We also call members who have not attended more than two meetings.
  • Texts, emails, social media posts, calls, monthly lunches with speakers
  • We play “two truths and a lie” with a few of our members every other meeting to get to know each other
