This annual gathering will be a time of camaraderie, growth, and inspiration, bringing together members from across the globe to celebrate the spirit of service and friendship that Civitan embodies.
“We are incredibly excited to host the 105th Civitan International Convention in Dunwoody,” said Civitan International Executive Vice President Mark Eisinger. “The event will serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that together, we can make a greater impact in our communities. Our speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities will empower our members to extend their reach and enhance the lives of those who we serve.”
Special Attendee: The convention is set to be a dynamic event filled with engaging activities and insightful presentations, all centered around the theme of “Listening, Learning and Leading.” A special highlight will be the presence of Polly Mooney Forestier, Civitan International’s first female volunteer president (1990-1991). Forestier has dedicated nearly half a century to the mission of Civitan International, making her an inspiring leader and a testament to the enduring impact of Civitan’s work.
Breakthru Golf Benefit: On Wednesday, August 6th at 8:30 a.m., members of Civitan International will participate in the 32nd Annual Breakthru Golf Benefit taking place at Heritage Links in Tucker, GA to raise money for the Civitan International Research Center (a center located on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham dedicated to research of neurodevelopmental disabilities). Civitans will be joined by Special Olympic golfers as they navigate through the nine-hole golf experience.
Keynote Address: During the Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, August 6th at 6:30 p.m., the keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Robert Pawlicki, a renowned expert on the science of optimism and its role in achieving personal and professional success. In his presentation titled, “Now is the Right Time for Optimism,” Dr. Pawlicki will challenge attendees to view their lives and service through a lens of hope and positivity. This motivational speech is sure to leave a lasting impression and encourage Civitans to continue making a difference in their communities.
Furthermore, Dr. Pawlicki will be leading an engaging Thursday morning (August 7th at 10:30 a.m.) workshop focused on practical strategies for pursuing personal happiness. Drawing from his extensive research and experience, participants will learn actionable steps to cultivate a more optimistic outlook and enjoy a fulfilling life.
Civitan International Research Center Learning Expo (C.I.R.C.L.E): On Friday, August 8th from 1-3 p.m., attendees will experience a fun event to learn about the cutting-edge research conducted at the Civitan International Research Center. It is set to include a one-of-a-kind educational experience in a vendor-style expo for members to meet several scientists. It will include interactive experiences for the attendees!
Closing Ceremony: Polly Mooney Forestier’s historic presidency is only one of the many highlights at this year’s convention. On Saturday, August 9th at 6:30 p.m., Civitans will also be celebrating the organization’s ongoing commitment to serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through its projects, including updates from the Civitan International Research Center. Civitan leaders will also announce the winner of the Courtney W. Shropshire Award, the organization’s top honor recognizing an outstanding club and its impact on the community.
Service Project: Additionally, there will be the annual service project, which will benefit The Clayton Center Community Service Board (Jonesboro, GA). This organization provides services that minimize the impact of mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse in the lives of persons served and their families while supporting their inclusion in the community. Civitans are collecting sensory friendly items to donate to the center at the end of the convention.
