Our vision is to be a global community where people of all abilities and talents make the world a better place.
Civitan Changes Lives
Civitan is the only service organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and through the Civitan International Research Center, we are helping find cures and develop treatments for autism, Rett syndrome, Down syndrome and many more brain-related disorders.
Civitans are Champions of Service
Civitan offers people of all ages the opportunity to selflessly serve their communities and make the world a better place. Whether building wheelchair ramps, developing inclusive playgrounds or fundraising for the Civitan International Research Center, we are a hands-on organization ready to roll up our sleeves to positively impact individuals in our communities.
Civitan Spans The Globe
Since the beginning, Civitans have united under a universal mission rooted in service. Spanning more than 20 nations in North America, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Islands, Civitan is truly a global organization dedicated to serving others.
SPOTLIGHTS
Civitan is making a difference in our local community through service projects. We meet monthly and have a variety of options for members to choose from that are making a difference in the lives of those around us.
Potato Project
The Shelby Civitan Club partners with scores of Junior Civitans each year to plant and harvest potatoes to feed hungry people in Cleveland County each year. Our work is part of the “Potato Project” in our community. The concept is simple: (1) Grow and harvest potatoes. (2) Give them all away to hungry people. This is NOT a fundraiser. We don’t sell any potatoes. This is another example of Shelby Civitans and Junior Civitans doing what they can to make our community better.
North Shelby Christmas Party
For almost 50 years the Shelby Civitan Club has sponsored a Christmas party for the students at North Shelby School. It’s the highlight of our year as Civitans and brings so much joy to the students. North Shelby is a special purpose school for students who have significant intellectual and physical disabilities. The whole community comes together to make this a day of celebration. The Shelby Civitan Club provided games, prizes, lunch, and a gift for every child and school staff member. Students wrapped the teachers and administrators in wrapping paper for this annual game.

North Shelby Christmas Party
The Shelby Civitans have had a special relationship with the students at North Shelby School. The annual Christmas party is sponsored by the Shelby Civitans- gifts, games, Santa and much more!

Cleveland County Special Olympics Events
Special Olympics Cleveland County will host their annual Spring Games in April 2024. The Opening Ceremony will open the Games at 9 a.m. Special Olympics athletes from across the county will compete in various athletics events.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Shelby Civitans take the lead to show support on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated.
