Our vision is to be a global community where people of all abilities and talents make the world a better place.
Civitan Changes Lives
Civitan is the only service organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and through the Civitan International Research Center, we are helping find cures and develop treatments for autism, Rett syndrome, Down syndrome and many more brain-related disorders.
Civitans are Champions of Service
Civitan offers people of all ages the opportunity to selflessly serve their communities and make the world a better place. Whether building wheelchair ramps, developing inclusive playgrounds or fundraising for the Civitan International Research Center, we are a hands-on organization ready to roll up our sleeves to positively impact individuals in our communities.
Civitan Spans The Globe
Since the beginning, Civitans have united under a universal mission rooted in service. Spanning more than 20 nations in North America, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Islands, Civitan is truly a global organization dedicated to serving others.
SPOTLIGHTS
Civitan is making a difference in our local community through service projects. We meet monthly and have a variety of options for members to choose from that are making a difference in the lives of those around us.
Annual Christmas meeting
The members and their spouses enjoy holiday music at their annual Christmas lunch on the Third Thursday in December. Join us for lunch!
Preparing bookbags for local School.
Every July, the club purchases and stuffs backpacks for the children of an under-served elementary school in Durham.
A history of fellowship and service
President Norman Whitaker presents an award for Excellence in service to the Past President Mike Cooley in 1998.
Service and Fellowship
Sheriff Worth Hill (ret) presents the Civitan Of The Year Award to Dudley Robinson, CPA (ret) at the Annual Durham Civitan Club Awards Banquet on the 4th Thursday of September.

Love Durham Run 5k
Through the work of the Durham Civitan Club, we’re running for more than the finish line. Your participation helps impact the Durham community and beyond through our partnerships with Special Olympics, Boys & Girls Home of NC, Backpack Buddies of Durham, G.R.E.A.T. of Durham and The Civitan International Research Foundation at the University of Alabama Birmingham just to name a few.
