CIVITAN PROCLAMATIONS IN THE HEARTLAND!

When the Heartland District was being formed back in 2005, the Ozark District Governor, C.W. Miller was approached with an idea to share with other Civitan Clubs about bringing more Civitan Awareness everywhere Civitan has a presence. Additionally, the idea was to share the success of the Little Rock Civitan Club in obtaining an official proclamation from the Governor or Arkansas so it could be used to help bring about Civitan Awarenesss through the media.

By sharing the Arkansas Proclamation with others, the intent was to spark interest and motivate other states to do the same to help boost Civitan Awareness in their respective areas. The proclamation could then be used to request support from corporate or individual entities when trying to get sponsorships for Civitan-related activities.

Civitan International was contacted to see if anyone had ever obtained a Governor’s Proclamation for Civitan Awareness Month, and it was determined that no state had ever done this before...at least not to the knowledge of Civitan International.

After several attempts were made in contacting the other states around Arkansas, the Little Rock Club continued every year to obtain a proclamation for the State of Arkansas so all the clubs around the state could use the proclamation to fulfill their needs and promote Civitan Awareness.

By working with representatives from each of the Governor’s offices in each of the Heartland District states, the goal of being the “first” Civitan District in the history of Civitan to obtain official proclamations or letters of recognition from each Governor has now been accomplished.

But we’re not stopping there...the goal now is to promote this initiative all across Civitan so that when enough states obtain official state Proclamations, the credibility will then be strong enough in order to request a Civitan Awareness Month Proclamation from the White House, so everyone in America and abroad, will know what Civitan is!
