“When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur. When you improve conditioning a little each day, eventually you have a big improvement in conditioning. Not tomorrow, not the next day, but eventually a big gain is made. Don’t look for the big, quick improvement. Seek the small improvement one day at a time. That’s the only way it happens – and when it happens, it lasts.”
-Coach John Wooden
The preceding quote is one of many quotes and teachings from renowned UCLA Coach John Wooden. Coach Wooden was a phenomenal human being with a fantastic ability to work with, coach, and mentor others who became leaders or improved their leadership skills throughout the world. He had a wonderful way of challenging one and bringing the best out of them.
I feel that as Civitans, we are at a threshold. Questions that we are asking ourselvesare: Do we stay where we are or do we move forward? How are we supposed to move forward? What is it that we are supposed to be doing anyway? I believe that the quote above provides us with a roadmap, a map that guides us. It guides us to embrace improvement but to consider doing so in small, consequential steps with purpose and direction but without bulky, cumbersome goals. These small steps, if we build upon each one, day by day, will result in big gains, big gains that last. I need each of you to help me make these little steps each and every day, by talking Civitan with your non Civitan friends, coworkers, and anyone else that you know. New Members bring their passions, new ideas, and a willingness to serve by making the World a Better Place.
So let’s get busy with making a small improvement, one new member at a time!
Thank you for your service to Civitan!
Thank you very much for your message Frank which is very much appreciated.
Best wishes,
