After 37 years, Mary Coon’s love for Civitan is just as strong as it was the day she first joined in 1982. Currently a member and former president of the Warner Robins Civitan Club in Warner Robins, Georgia, Coon credits her unwavering passion for Civitan to her opportunity to participate in service projects and serve in leadership roles.
“I love Civitan. I really do,” says Coon. “I can do what I want and I can go as far as I want. It’s enough for me.”
Now retired, the once self-employed business owner took to Civitan, because it allowed her to connect with her community and give back. “I joined [Civitan] so that I would get involved in something more than me,” she explained.
Coon ended with a few short words, advice for new Civitans, “Use your voice and be a part of what is happening.”
You picked a good one to spotlight! ” Mother Mary,” as her fellow Governors called her, was always at the center of happenings and loads of fun to be with. Her husband, Rick was fun as well. When you can work with people that bring a smile to your face, it isn’t really work at all. I was lucky to have Mother Mary as one of my Governors!
Mary Coon is a very dedicated hard working and involved Civitan. She gives of her time and talent serving for many years as treasurer of the District and of the District’s major project Camp Big Heart. She is a great Civitan and deserves this recognition. Marty I. Heller, Marietta Civitan Club.
