As you are aware, the Civitan International Convention will be held

Training Coordinator. Civitan International requires that all
incoming club presidents, presidents-elect, secretaries, and
treasurers receive
structured training in a manner prescribed
by Civitan International.
Especially important is the training for incoming
club presidents which must be more intensive
than the training for other officers. At Governor-elect
Academy it was stressed that one or two hours training for incoming
Club presidents is inadequate and Ohio District was mentioned.
Accordingly a longer, separate training "academy"
has been scheduled for incoming club presidents to
meet Civitan International requirements. This will
have taken place on June 24, 2000, before you get
this Buckeye. The training is a MUST for every incoming club
president and is training required for special recognition such
as Honor Club. It is
essential for efficient, effective and proper
conduct of
club operations, growth, membership retention
and development. It is imperative that the president
have the more thorough and complete understanding of current
Civitan policies, procedures, and programs which is obtained
through training as well
as have the benefit of interchange of
information with other Ohio District clubs gained from meeting
together as a group of 2000-2001 club presidents. In
addition
for Ohio District to have a successful 2000-2001 Civitan year,
it is essential that all 2000-2001 club presidents work to gather
as an Ohio District team. The training session will
help establish the team effort and spirit. The training of 2000-2001
presidents-elect, secretaries, and treasurers is scheduled
for a couple
hours Saturday afternoon just after the elections
at the Annual Convention in August.
APPOINTED DISTRICT CHAIRS
The Civitan Calendar requires that Appointed District Officers
and Chairs be appointed soon, preferably prior to the International
Convention. To
accomplish this, I need your help by suggesting
persons to fill specific positions or by indicating
your preference or desire to fill a specific position.
I need your suggestions and volunteering immediately. It is
my hope to have so many suggestions and volunteers that I cannot
follow all of them and that
you understand if I am unable to follow
yours. But please do volunteer or make a suggestion even though
I may not be able to use all I receive. More
realistically I probably
will have to do some recruiting, so please say "yes."

Many Civitan clubs have a long tradition of building wheel chair ramps
at homes housing handicapped individuals. Mansfield Civitan Club
is home to a
number of Master Ramp Builders including Jelly Cline,
Bill Cornell, Dan Woodland and Fred Williams shown behind young
Justin Martin in his wheel chair. The
ramp was built from the door into
the house, behind the builders, to the garage floor.
